VIRGINIA RETIREMENT SYSTEM

AGENCY SUMMARY

The Virginia Retirement System is a body corporate and a retirement system for teachers, state employees, and employees of participating political subdivisions and is administered by the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Retirement System. The Board of Trustees is authorized to promulgate regulations and procedures and make determinations necessary to carry out the provisions of Chapter 1 (§ 51.1-100 et seq.) of Title 51.1 of the Code of Virginia. The Board of Trustees is also authorized to adopt rules and policies that bring the Retirement System into compliance with any applicable law or regulation of this Commonwealth or the United States. Code of Virginia, § 51.1-124.22.
