§ 1. The boundaries of the town of Marion, Virginia, shall be and remain as now established, but the boundaries thereof are incorporated herein by reference to the recordation in the Clerk's Office of Smyth County, Virginia, of the final decree or order of the Circuit Court of Smyth County establishing such boundaries which final decree or order was entered December 16, 1949 in said Clerk's Office in Common Law Order Book 13, Page 509, and by reference to the recordation in said Clerk's Office of the final decree or order of such court establishing such boundaries which final decree or order was entered December 1, 1958 in said Clerk's Office in Common Law Order Book 15, Page 467. § 2. The powers set forth in §§ 15.1-837 through 15.1-915 of the Code of Virginia as in force on January 1, 1972, are hereby specifically conferred upon the town of Marion. (1960, c. 9; 1972, c. 109)

§ 3. The mayor shall be elected for a term of four years, at the time and in the manner provided by law and his compensation shall be fixed by the Council. (1960, c. 9; 1975, c. 62)

§ 4. Three electors of the town of Marion shall be elected as councilmen of the town on the first Tuesday of May, 1972 and every four years thereafter; four electors of the town of Marion shall be elected as councilmen of the town on the first Tuesday of May, 1974 and every four years thereafter. § 5. All town councilmen, officers and employees heretofore elected or appointed shall remain in office and continue in their employment and be vested with the powers and duties heretofore imposed upon them by the council or by operation by law or hereafter imposed upon them under the provisions of this act until their successors are duly elected or appointed as provided by law or until action is taken by the town as set forth in § 15.1-845 of the Code of Virginia. § 6. All ordinances and resolutions heretofore made and adopted by the town, not in conflict with this charter shall be and remain in full force and effect until altered, amended or repealed by the council of the town. (1960, c. 9)
