CHAPTER 219
An Act to amend and reenact § 1 of Chapter 139 of the Acts of Assembly of 1996, as amended, relating to the Purple Heart Trail.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 1 of Chapter 139 of the Acts of Assembly of 1996, as amended, is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 1. The portion of Virginia Route 3 from George Washington's Birthplace
National Monument in Westmoreland County, Virginia, to its junction with Interstate
Route 95 at Fredericksburg, Virginia, the entire length of Interstate Highway 95 in
Virginia, the portion of U.S. Route 1 from its junction with Interstate Route
95 to its junction with Virginia Route 235, Virginia Route 235 from its
junction with U.S. Route 1 to George Washington's home and tomb at Mount
Vernon, and the portion of Interstate Route 64 from its junction with
Interstate Route 95 to the City of Norfolk, where General Douglas MacArthur is
entombed, and Interstate Route 64 between its junction with Interstate 95
and the Virginia/West Virginia boundary are hereby designated as the Purple
Heart Trail, in honor of General George Washington, native son of Virginia, and
the combat-wounded veterans awarded the Purple Heart Medal. The Department of
Transportation shall, no earlier than July 1, 2004, place and maintain
additional appropriate markers indicating the designation of this route.
This designation shall not affect any other designation heretofore or hereafter
applied to these highways or any portions thereof.
