DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES
AGENCY SUMMARY
The Department of General Services (DGS) is an intragovernmental service agency that primarily provides services to other Virginia state agencies, institutions of higher education, and many local governments, boards, and authorities. Pursuant to Article 1 (§ 2.2-1100 et seq.) of Chapter 11 of Title 2.2 of the Code of Virginia, DGS is authorized to establish the rules and regulations necessary to carry out its official duties.
DGS provides a wide range of specialized operations, including facilities maintenance, building and construction management, capital outlay, central purchasing, real property management, laboratory testing and services, surplus property distribution and warehousing, vehicle fleet operations, and state mail services at the seat of government.
DGS operates under the supervision of the Secretary of Administration. Regulations are available at the department's office located on the fourth floor of the Washington Building, 1100 Bank Street, Richmond, VA 23219. Internet address: http://www.dgs.virginia.gov.
